Job Description

The Trauma Quality Program & Audit Manager (Trauma Manager) will provide leadership and direction to the Trauma QIO team to support QSource Trauma QIO contract activities. The role includes overseeing project development from planning to execution and ensuring adherence to performance indicators, deadlines, and budgets. The Trauma Manager will acquire resources, coordinate the efforts of the team and contractors, and define objectives while overseeing quality control throughout the project lifecycle. This position involves direct management of trauma centers, communication with internal and external customers, and collaboration with various stakeholders. Additionally, the Trauma Manager will perform required trauma auditor functions for designated regions of Arkansas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management:

  1. Serve as the primary point of contact for contract performance and communication with external stakeholders.
  2. Lead and manage Trauma QIO contract activities, ensuring strict adherence to deadlines and budgets.
  3. Develop and execute project plans, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management.
  4. Ensure team application of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles and ISO processes.
  5. Estimate resources, recruit additional staff if necessary, and manage personnel.
  6. Resolve issues and manage project adjustments efficiently.

Auditor Functions:

  1. Perform annual on-site reviews of designated trauma centers.
  2. Attend TAC and TRAC meetings, including the QI/TRAC Subcommittee, and provide quarterly reports on quality metrics.
  3. Identify educational needs based on performance improvement data for trauma system providers.
  4. Participate in trauma care provider training activities.
  5. Communicate with QSource internal and external stakeholders to complete auditing functions.

Data and Reporting:

  1. Analyze performance data and prepare statistical reports.
  2. Report aggregate performance measures to facilities, regional advisory councils, and ADH in the required formats.
  3. Develop and deliver progress/status reports, documentation, and presentations.

Team Leadership:

  1. Recruit and retain staff capable of implementing and monitoring contractual deliverables.
  2. Conduct annual performance evaluations and provide coaching to team members.
  3. Promote a culture of quality and accountability within the team.

Compliance and Quality:

  1. Ensure HIPAA-compliant storage and transmission of data.
  2. Adhere to all state, HIPAA, and governmental agency requirements.
  3. Participate in ISO processes and quality improvement activities.
  4. Collaboration and Support:
  5. Build and maintain relationships vital to project success.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Ability to analyze findings in such a way as to create statistical reports regarding performance measures.
  2. Ability to report aggregate performance measures to facilities in a timely fashion and in an ADH-approved format.
  3. Ability to report aggregate performance measures to regional and statewide advisory councils and staff members at ADH.
  4. Ability to work with medical directors of EMS agencies and hospitals to obtain medical information when opportunities for improvement in patient care are identified.
  5. An understanding of trauma performance improvement and root cause analysis review.
  6. Must be able to produce high-quality completed work products.
  7. Knowledge of medical records, ICD-10-CM, and CPT coding principles.
  8. Knowledge of medical Utilization Review (UR) and Quality Improvement (QI) concepts.
  9. Must be able to maintain a customer-driven process.

Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements  

Education  

  1. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the State of Arkansas required.
  2. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. 
  3. Licensed EMT or paramedic preferred. 

Training (current or must be completed within 90 days of hire)  

  1. Society for Trauma Nursing’s TOPIC course 
  2. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) 
  3. Arkansas Trauma Society’s Trauma Registration Course 
  4. Arkansas Trauma Registry course 
  5. AAAM AIS coding course
  6. Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) 

Experience   

  1. Minimum of five or more years of clinical trauma care experience.
  2. Three years of experience applying injury severity score (ISS) coding. 
  3. Experience in Utilization Review (UR) and/or Quality Improvement (QI) preferred. 

Travel Requirements

Employee will work remotely from a home-based office. Approximately 25% travel required.
